There were two races that day in the Freebike class and one in
the series 600. The first freebike race was a piece of cake. Louis was immediately gone
and stayed there till the finish.
On the other hand, the second race was very close. Chris Jennes and Louis overtook each
other the whole race but Louis overtook in the last turn to finish again first.
In the Series 600, as usual it was Louis who took the lead. As in the previous race,
Marc Wauters didn't even try to overtake him but stayed behind. And in the last straight
line Wauters went easily over Louis (this cannot be a Standard bike). Louis now did what
was inevitable. He officially layed down a complaint against the bike of Wauters. The bike
was taken apart and some pieces were taken away for investigation.
Some weeks later, they came together to discuss the results. And when they looked at
several pieces of the motor, they could see that there was tampered manually with several
vital pieces of the motor. According to Wauters this came in from the dealer like this.
But anyhow, this was not a standard bike anymore. So, when all goes honest, Wauters will
be disqualified. |

In this second endurance race this year, Louis and his
teammate Albert Aerts went for their second victory in the Series 600 class. After two
hours they finished first! When there is a third race this year (most likely this will be
organised), then they will go for the Belgian title (min. 3 races needed to obtain this
title). |

It was again a troubled race-day. It was decided to have 2
training-sessions for the Series 600 class in which the juniors trained together with the
inters. In session A, the odd numbers had to train and in session B the even numbers.
Louis obtained the second fastest time in session B. That was at the same time the second
fastest in total. But because the first session was wet, the organisors decided that the
first of session A got the pole, the first of session B the second, the second of race A
the third and then the second of race B. So Louis started in 4th position (still on the
first row). As often in Belgium, it was raining before the start of the race and it
seemed (feeling the wind that it would still keep on raining, so rain-tires... but the
wind can turn at the seaside... and it stopped raining. There was just not enough time for
Louis however to run to his team and get the other tires.. hectic moments since the
team-boss Renaud had to compete also in the mono-bikes which was the next race. So bad
luck. With these rain-tires on the dry road it was more sliding then racing. Eventually
Louis could keep the 4th place but some rounds before the finish, more bad luck since you
could hear his motor being drown on the straight line. Due to this, Louis ended 6th.
In the Freebikes class (with his fireblade) he obtained the Pole.
In de race, Jadoul took the lead, followed by Louis and Jennes. At the end of the
straight line, Louis braked Jadoul, Jadoul made a braking error and Louis together with
Jennes are gone. Louis can keep Jennes behind till the finish.
At the second race of the Series600 class it was and stayed dry. His motor was
repaired. Now it was De Meulemeester who started fastest on his STANDARD!? 600. Louis came
second and Wauters with his 'even more STANDARD?' kawasaki third. Louis braked everybody
at the end of the straight line but in the straight line they could easily overtake him.
De Meulemeester saw that Louis braked so late, so he tried it too. But to imitate this
from Louis he still has to get more experience. He missed the curve and went straight. So
Louis and Wauters were gone again. Now Wauters stayed behind Louis but you could see that
his Kawa was remarkably faster then Louis' Honda??? This should be a standard class. Now
Louis has experienced himself, during a comparison test of the different 600 standard
motorbikes Suzuki, Kawa, Yamaha and Honda, what the differences are between these bikes.
The Suzuki and Kawa were a bit slower. Louis, however, had to see frustrated that the Kawa
overtook his Honda easily on the last straight line. Every connoisseur could see that
something wasn't right here. |

On the circuit of Carole (France), 2 races for the belgian championship
were driven of which one of them was the Series 600. Besides these two races for belgians,
there were also the races for the french championship. At the belgian Series 600 race
there were a large number of contestants (34), so many that some of them could not
qualify. Louis again obtained the pole position.
In the race itself, Louis started very badly (4th place). He came through after De
Meulemeester, Wauters and Petit-Jean who took a hell of a start. Somewhat too fast because
after some 4 rounds he fell. Louis could overtake everybody again due to his
braking-talent (his standard motor showed to be somewhat slower than some other STANDARD
motorbikes (could be seen on the straight lines)).
So, another victory ! |

With a brandnew motor (without being able to train with it),
the POLE was obtained around 1 second faster then the second (Legrelle). The third
place was for Chris Jennes and the fourth for A. Kempener.
The start however went quite wrong. The motor was tuned to be at high power at high speeds
and lower at low speed. But without being able to train much with it, it came as a
surprise that suddenly at higher speed the power came through with a wheelie as a result.
Due to this effect, 4 drivers could overtake him immediately. In the first round they
slowed him down enough for Legrelle to make a gap in the first round. The gap was too big
to close, although Louis came through as second in the second round already.Very late
(just the day before), it was known that there would only be one race in the supersport
class. Because Louis cannot stand still for too long, he quickly phoned Albert Aerts to
race together with him in the Pro Bike (2hours endurance) race. The only bike they had was
Louis his standard Honda 600cc. Albert agreed immediately and together they did it
extremely well. Albert normally doesn't race on a Honda, but drove very good. The CBR600
proves once again that it is an easy machine and Albert that he is a very talented pilot.
In this Pro Bike race, there are two pit stops (mainly to take fuel). Louis' and Alberts
system to take in fuel was much too slow (especially in the second pitstop). So, although
they had the overall lead in two thirds of the race (with their STANDARD series 600!!);
during the second pitstop Mark Wauters his team could pass them. That team was racing a
superbike (900cc) in the freebike class. |

On a very high level for Belgium, these races would and were
competed with names as: Wuyts (myself), Brown (BKM team), Cohan (SS Champion FR), Risitano
(SS Champ IT and World Series racer), Daemen (B World Series racer), Legrelle, Orban,
Fisette, Wouters, Jadoul and many more (over-full start-grids).
These races were my least prepared ones since long (two motors became only somewhat ready
2 days before the races).
It was with a lot of doubts that I went to Mettet. But eventually ALL went very well. I
could obtain the fastest time for the Supersports first qualification round in dry weather
(some hundredths of a second before Daemen with his Worldseries machine).
Also the Freebike and Series Pole positions became mine. The first SS race on sunday,
was enormously thrilling with 4 racers continuously in front and each lap somebody else
took the lead. These were Legrelle, Cohan, Daemen and myself. For 15 rather long rounds we
were gone and only after some 8 rounds it was Legrelle who made the first little mistake
and it was three of us. After a while Cohan also left somewhat behind and it was only in
the last lap that I overtook Daemen and got the victory.
The second race (Freebike) with my Honda Fireblade was on a half-wet circuit and I
could keep the lead from start to finish.

The third race (Series600) was a nightmare. It was raining like hell and rather cold as
well. With speeds over 200 km/h and soaking wet I felt almost frozen when we arrived. I
couldn't feel my hands nor feet anymore. Eventually, in this race, Legrelle could finish
21 hundredths of a second before me but he was disqualified because of non-standard tires.
The last Supersport race was somewhat a bright idea about the kind of tires to use. It
was doubtfull whether it was going to rain or not and the circuit was still half-wet. I
and my team decided to put a kind of intermediate tires on. My nearest competitors had put
wet tires on. Legrelle and Daemen started very fast and I tried to follow as good as I
could with the streets still somewhat wet. I could stay in sight and after some rounds the
street became more and more dry and I could close the gap. Legrelle again made a mistake
and it was between me and Daemen again. But Daemen could not keep the fast pace with his
rain-tires. I overtook him near the end and could finish my 4th race of the day with a
nice wheely to celebrate my 4th victory!
WHAT A DAY!
Somewhere in me I felt I did this in honour of Michael Pacquay who never gave up and
has always been an example to me! |
