'All art is at once surface and symbol', Oscar Wilde wrote in the Preface to Dorian Gray. Strangely enough, many people who read Wilde seem not to have understood this message, and as a result they foolishly characterise him as 'funny' merely. They do not perceive the philosophy and criticism hidden under the surface of wit. They miss the treasures of the Wildean Universe.
