U.S. Army First Sergeant Bruce Malone Bandmaster, SHAPE International Band First Sergeant Bruce Malone has served in the United States Army for over nineteen years. He has many years experience directing and leading musical organisations to include jazz ensembles, rock bands, ceremonial units and wind ensembles. His military assignments include Fort Monmouth, NJ; Berlin, Germany; Faculty of the Armed Forces School of Music, VA; Allied Forces Southern Europe (CinCSouth Band), Naples, Italy; Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and currently Bandmaster of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe International Band. First Sergeant Malone, a native of Smithfield Pennsylvania, began his military career in July 1982.He has attended St. Leo College, Harford Community College and the Berklee School of Music. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History with the University of Maryland. He has performed as a Bassist with such well-known artists as Rosemary Clooney, Doc Severinson, Ben E. King, Chris Vadala, Jamey Abersold, Mac Davis, and The Coasters. He has performed on Electric and Acoustic Bass with the Virginia Beach Pops Orchestra, the Virginia Beach Pops Dixieland band, and the Virginia Symphony. First Sergeant Malone’s accomplishments over the years have earned him two Meritorious Service Medals, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, a Joint Service Achievement Medal, nine Army Achievement Medals, the Army of Occupation Medal, and the Joint Service Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal and NATO Medal for service in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia. The United States Army additionally rewarded his superior leadership and musical abilities by appointing him to the position of Bandmaster for the SHAPE International Band, a highly prestigious and coveted conducting position. First Sergeant Malone is the only enlisted Bandmaster in the United States Army. First Sergeant Malone is accompanied by his wife and three children. |
