The Gundog Morphology

    You must be cautious, since as in many dog races (Cocker, Labrador, Springer Spaniel, ...), the dogs were bred to follow the beauty standard. Most of them thus lost their natural qualities. They have become perfect show dogs, yet are no gundogs anymore...

    The following criteria will help you choose your future companion, which will share your shooting days :

    - The parents must be gundogs and must have proven their qualities: shooting Working-Tests, Fields-Trials …

    - Ask to see the parents' pedigrees to check the origins of your puppy. Here are some breeding names you are bound to see in them : Holway, Standerick, Catcombe and Clancallum. Of course there are many others, but those are the most well-known British working dogs breeders.

    - Contact a keen breeder who has choosen this option.

When you are at the breeders' place :

    - Look at the litter : the pup must be attentive, look at you and welcome you happily.

    - The bitch must also be welcoming, she must also be non-agressive.

    - Ask the breeder for advice, he knows his litter.

    Once you get your pup, his education will lay in your hands. Patience and tenderness will create this rappot which is essential to the succes of this new adventure.
