Juni 2002
The island is very pretty and very touristic with just one coastal road, which connect the town with the westside of Skiathos. Unfortunately, you can see little of the seaside because it’s hidden by a lot of hotels built in the neighbourhood of the numerous sandy beaches along this road. Much more attractive is the northern part of the island. You’ll have to cope with very bad road conditions (the worst road in the Sporades), but the visiting can be done with a reliable vehicle and a careful driving.

Rooms Filitsa When arriving in Skiathos you’re assailed
by a lot of room owners promoting their accommodation; they are willing
to take you on their motorbikes for a quick visit.

Asprolithos
(Skiathos)
|
In a back street at the end of
Papadiamantis street. A bit more expensive than other places. Service
is surprisingly good for such a busy place, offering consistent quality
food. |
| Platanos (Profitis Ilias) | Profitis Ilias on the way to Megalo Aselinos. A nice balcony with a wide open view to Skiathos town. Tasty food, reasonable prices, Greek music. |
| Mandraki (Mandraki) | Mandraki
beach. Very basic – service could be more friendly and personal. |

Skiathos town |
When facing inland, to the right
is the new part, where you will find a lot of shops (esp. in the main
street) as well as eateries and other tourist facilities. |
| Kastro | This
is an abandoned medieval settlement above the north coast of Skiathos –
access is extremely bad (we think there are plans to asphalt it as we saw
measurements being taken). Mainly visited by excursion boats. From this place you have tremendous views. There is a little beach with a shelter where you can have a drink. |
| Beaches |
Beaches dominate the south coast and are easily accessible. |
| Tzaneria: cosy – sand beach – taverns | |
| Vromolimnos: a long sandy beach | |
| Koukounaries: the longest and most popular sandy beach of Skiathos | |
| Mandraki:
long sandy beach with dune formations and a tavern http://www.greekisland.co.uk/skiathos/xmandraki.htm |
|
| Angistra: a long sandy beach with a tavern | |
| Megalo Aselinos: a long sandy beach with a tavern | |
| Ligaries:
between Meg. Aselinos and Mikro Aselinos; before reaching this place you have an immense panoramic view on your left |
|
| Nikotsara: a nice trip along a dusty road to one of the quiet north beaches |
