GENERAL

Though this was our third visit to the island, it was still amazingly attractive. The spectacular view of the caldera and the villages built on it leave an unforgettable impression. This island is very touristic and therefore authenticity must be actively searched for, b
ut it has much to offer at the same.

ACCOMMODATION

BEWARE!!!

We made our reservation in Galaxy Appartments (in Imerovigli)
http://www.greekhotel.com/cyclades/santorin/imerovig/galaxy/home.htm

Regarding the Internet announcement we had high hopes. The disappointment was very great.
The Internet site gives THE WRONG IMPRESSION altogether.
The description:"all the comfort of a modern appartment" must be a joke!
Large rooms (that is true) but comfort is very much under par: the fully equipped appartment contained an old rusty fridge and a primitive cupboard with a dirty pot and pan. The sheets on the beds in the large room weren't even clean. The bed of the small room was covered in dust because of the large airpipe in the ceiling just above the bed. In the bathrooms there was not even the comfort of the lowest category hotel. The shelf that should be used for placing some toilet articles on it was fixed with just one nail in the middle. We had to search for the right balance to put things on it or not use it. There was not even a comfortable mirror fixed in one of the bathrooms. The caldera view they announced so proudly was interrupted by a part of a lower building, electric cables and the laundry of a neighbour situated lower down (renting rooms and regular washing).
On top of that we couldn't sleep because there was a noisy waterpump which was continuously working night and day at the entrance of our appartment).
Our first sight impression of the swimmingpool was OK, but we couldn’t even enjoy it because it wasn’t very clean. Even the breakfast, ordered the evening before, which was of a good quality, took one hour to be served. We tried to convince ourselves to find something which could charm us, but NO, 30000GDR in September for this is too much!!! In Thira, Firostefani & Imerovigli you can find much better accommodation for a fair price.

RESTAURANTS

Skaros (in Firostefani)

We visited this restaurant two years before and decided to go back once. Again we can confirm the continuity of excellent food. We were not alone; there was hardly find a table left. During the day it has a lot more to offer because of the nice view of the caldera.

Estiatorio ? (in Amoudi)

Amoudi is a small fishing harbour beneath Ia, which can be reached by the steps and even by car. We forgot the name of the restaurant but there is a sign of the 'Sunset Fish Club' in front of it: a good choice, except for the mussels (mudia) which were rather expensive and not comparable to those we’re used to in Greece.

Roofgarden (in Thira) As we saw wine from the barrel on nearly all the tables, we ordered the white. You knew the wine was undrinkable the moment you smelt it. We practically didn’t touch it; they didn’t pay any attention and didn’t ask whether there was something wrong. The food was OK. (ROOFGARDEN)
Estiatorio ? (in Kamari) Situated on the left corner on the beach promenade when arriving in Kamari. This place is too busy and too commercial - it is operating with tourist busses which can be very inconvenient. Two years ago you could have a good meal there, but this is no longer the case.
Atlantida View (in Megalochori) On the right along the road to Akrotiri - we had an enjoyable meal there, as we did two years ago.
