September 2001
This is our second trip to Greece this year. Eleven years ago (1991) we visited these islands during our first contact with Greece, but because of a lack of travel experience at that time we decided to explore them again sooner or later. When in Greece we usually rent a motorbike; this year for the first time we had an accident during one of our excursions because of oil on the road. As a result, which took place on the 6th day of our stay, we couldn’t visit as many places as we had planned to. |

A mountainous island of great natural beauty. It has nice landscapes, inviting beaches and very attractive villages with Cycladic architecture. The two main resorts on the island are Parikia (ferry port) and Naoussa, which is a picturesque busy fishing village and a very pleasant place to stay. In contrast with Paroikia you can enjoy a delicious meal in one of the waterfront restaurants.
Sunrise Appartments (in Naoussa) We stayed at Sunrise Appartments (http://www.parosweb.com/) a short walk from the harbour. We can strongly recommend this place. The complex - is very carefully kept; the rooms are very clean and everything you might need is available. They have a small-sized swimming pool. The rooms (with TV, airco and a small kitchen) were spacious. We paid 20000 for an appartment with two bedrooms. If you ask for it they serve a good breakfast with fresh bread and croissants, coffee or tea and fresh fruit juice (1500 GDR), which you can enjoy by the swimming pool.
The whole staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Amouria (in Naoussa)
situated in the small port, it can be recommended for ouzo-time with a plate of ‘pikilies’ (this is a mixture of appetizers: very tasteful prepared).Pervolaria (in Naoussa) Though recommended by the hotel staff we waited till the last evening of our stay to go there: situated in the neighbourhood of the large cathedral; delicious food, greek music and a good atmosphere. Barbarossa (in Naoussa) also on the waterfront - all the plates we ordered were of good quality except for the grilled calamares, which were rather tough. But we can strongly recommend the ‘thalasina’ spaghetti. Paradosiako… (in Naoussa) has the most tables and was always full - one evening we finally found a table, but were a bit disappointed. The plateia where most of the tables are is very dark and you can hardly see what’s on your plate. There wasn’t even a candle to improve the lack of ligthing. I Mira (in Parikia) along the promenade in the neighbourhood of the Frankish Kastro Walls). Excellent food and reasonable prices. The traffic (arrival and departure of boats) can be a nuisance. To Kima (in Drios)
at the east coast under Piso Livadi - here we went twice because it was very delicious. A very quiet place. We ordered a great variety of dishes; they were all extremely good. The Greek music they played was a plus. This is a nice place to enjoy a relaxed meal. (To Kima )
