Reader-There was a profanity in the text. He said God.

Book-There are no profanity restrictions for any class of Reader in this country

.

Reader-Did my parents know that when they signed up with VariLit Inc.?

Book-It's not my concern if they don't know the regulations.

Reader-Are there restrictions in other countries?

Book-Many. In most Islamic countries, for example, one is very careful about what one says about the Prophet. And in many states of the USA you can't say "God" or "Jesus" in a non-religious exclamation. Even if you change countries while reading the screen will change to comply with profanity laws. And flying into French airspace will make all the English words disappear. Each country has different laws. This one happens to be one of the most liberal.

Reader-You mean even when I'm reading this on a plane you know when the plane crosses borders? That means you must know where I am all the time I'm reading.

Book-Of course.

Reader-Well that's Goddamn intrusive!

Book-It is merely to protect ourselves. If this book breaks a profanity law the consequences can be dire. Authors and programmers have been killed.

Reader-And books turned off?

Book-Books have no feelings, I assure you. Wipe us one day, we're back the next.

Reader-Then get on with the story.
