| About Peter Wachtler |
|
The
Eisacktal is an alpine valley situated between the Brenner pass
and the city of Bozen. We find ourselves in South-Tyrol, on Italian
territory. The local climate being a lot rougher than in the lower
regions, more robust northern grape varities such as Silvaner, Grüner
Veltliner, Riesling and Kerner are more suitable to be cultivated.
Powerful and aromatic white wines are what distinguish the Eisacktaler
DOC appelation. The Taschlerhof is located in the village of Mahr,
a few kilometers south of the city of Brixen. On a terroir of primeval
rock and schieffer (slate), in vineyards on terraced slopes, Peter
Wachtler produces wines that will charm you immediately with their
overwhelming personality. |

| Sylvaner |
|
The
Sylvaner is a grape of Austrian origin that has found its second
"heimat" in Germany. When delivering high yields the grape produces
rather meager wines, but when the soil has the right texture and
the vines are cut properly, the Silvaner can produce aromatic wines
with abundant character. These two conditions are met in the Taschlerhof.
The soils of the Eisacktal contain quarts and mica, in the vineyards
of the Taschlerhof slate is predominant. Yields are limited to 60
hectoliter pro hectare. Colour is a honey yellow. The nose is of
the complex sort that keeps evolving while waltzing the wine: angelica,
candied fruits, lychee. A flavour of dense fruit (ananas, mango,
lime). A long aftertaste with some modest white pepper. A wine with
substance that harmonizes well with cheese dishes. |

| Kerner |
|
Kerner
is a crossbreeding of Riesling and Trollinger, of which the last
grape is better known in South-Tyrol as Vernatsch. An amazing couple,
not only in theory. In the glass the Kerner proves to be an explosively
aromatic. An overwhelming nose of muscat, ananas, passion fruit
and lemon balm. A very fresh flavour with again passion fruit, lots
of citrus, a very vivid acidity. Only the peppery ending reveals
the power of the wine. Just like the Silvaner we are dealing with
a very concentrated wine having an abundant substance and a long
aftertaste and which nevertheless - succeedingly- preserves its
freshness. |
