Today the basket of the OO-BMA has its place at Sportimonium.

Basket of the OO-BMA Sportimonium is the joint creation of the Sports Museum Flanders and the Flemish Folk Games Central. The Flemish Folk Games Central (1980) studies and promotes traditional games and the Sports Museum Flanders (1985) provides the services of a museum for sports in the widest sense. In the Sportimonium project, all the functions described on this website will be brought together under one roof accessible to public.

The futuristic term, Sportimonium, is derived from the Latin word for heritage: 'patrimonium'. The Sports Museum Flanders wishes to preserve and enrich this living sports heritage. Sportimonium is not a closed, antiquarian collection but a living resource for the past, present and future of sport. The illustrations on this website show what this heritage means in terms of objects.

This project allows sporting traditions not only to be studied but also to be experienced.

Last weekend there was a balloonmeeting in our town. On Sunday François Schaut inflated 2 balloons from "Balloons Rest In Peace". First we inflated the first Belgian balloon (Planta - OO-GDB), and we didn't use a fan! ;-) Later on the day François inflated his own balloon that he manufactured in 1973 (OO-SWF). With this balloon he demonstrated a so called "running take-off". A technique that was used to inflate in windy conditions.

Old Timers on the Balloonmeeting in Olen (Belgium)

14 july 2003
We keep looking for old balloons, even during summer...
Last saturday, we had a meeting with Jacques Nokin. Jacques actually flies the OO-BJN, a yellow balloon constructed by Patrick Libert. His first balloon, the OO-BAY, is a Cameron N-65a, also yellow, and initially with publicity for Bayer on it. Later this publicity was removed and replaced by banners for the ULB (a university in Brussels).
