The folk dance group “De Boezeroenen” exist already since 1976. The group is from Kuringen-Hasselt, a little town in the Northeast of Belgium.
The Boezerenen count over one hundred members, from small children to adults; all practicing in their own age group, Flemish and international folk dances.
The exhibition group consists of about 30 youngsters between the age of 14 and 25. This group brings a wide program of Flemish dances on live music. Both dancers and musicians perform in traditional costumes
In the course of the years the Boezeroenen performed in Belgium and abroad. They have been dancing on Festivals in France, Germany, the Netherlands, England, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Rumania, Byelorussia, Ukraine, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, Israel and Egypt.
Each year around the 15th of August the Boezeroenen organize their own International Folk Dance Festival in Kuringen - Hasselt.
The foreign guests at the Festival mostly stay in host families. Each year we host three to four groups from different European and overseas countries.
These groups are often invited on an exchange basis. The Boezeroenen exhibition group first stay with a foreign group and later on this group at his turn comes to the festival in Hasselt.
In the week of the festival there are not only the performances but also a wide range of other activities like excursions, sports and games, fraternization evenings, ….
