Memlinck settled down in Brugge in 1465 where he became town citizen. He was a respected man and was one of the most wealthy men of the city when he died.

Memlinck belongs to the most famous painters of the Low Countries in the 15^th century.

After Van Eyck panel painting culminated with Memlinck. He had a polished style of painting: he used precious fabrics, sparkling gems and paradisiacal gardens.
