Memlinck settled down in Brugge in 1465 where he became town citizen. He was a respected man and was one of the most wealthy men of the city when he died.
Memlinck belongs to the most famous painters of the Low Countries in the 15th century.
After Van Eyck panel painting culminated with Memlinck. He had a polished style of painting: he used precious fabrics, sparkling gems and paradisiacal gardens.
Examples of his work: ‘Het mystieke huwelijk van de heilige Catharina’, ‘Het Ursulaschrijn’, ‘Triptiek van het laatste oordeel’
