Jansenius was a theologian who founded the Roman Catholic reform movement known as Jansenism. Janssenius participated the discussions of the contra versus in his days. He engaged in a polemic against the Dutch Calvinists and the Jesuits. He dreamt of a reformation of the church. In his book "Mars Gallicus" he rejected the French conquering-policy. He died of the plague just after completing his great work, the Augustinus, which, upon publication two years later, was condemned as heretical.
