Institutional Psychotherapy

The expression " Institutional Psychotherapy" (Psychothérapie Institutionnelle) was first used in an article by two French psychiatrists Koechlin et Daumézon published in Anais Portugueses de Psiquiatria in 1952. IP is a movement that started from the experience in the MH of Saint Alban in Lozère (France) by the Catalan psychiatrist François Tosquelles. This movement is continued now in different places (also outside France). The clinic of La Borde near Cour-Cheverny (Loir et Cher), created by the French psychiatrist Jean Oury (page is french text about the film: la moindre des choses), is one of its privileged places and a reference in this development.

The Belgian movement of IP was stimulated through seminars given at the U.P.C. St. Kamillus in Bierbeek (B) and conferences held in 1996 (see IP) and 1997 in Leuven (B). It has provoked demands for more theoretical deepening and concrete practice development. Both these aspects are closely related and we want to develop them in the future. This is why the movement of Institutional Psychotherapy (IP) has organised a Day of the Club (the first one was on Friday, June, the 5th 1998 in Linkebeek (Brussels)).

A 5th conference day has been held on December 03, 2004.

Some lecture groups and other activities groups have started as well (meeting groups, coordination group). See: agenda.
