The Great Procession of Tournai
CONTACT PICTURES FOLDER CD-ROM

For over nine hundred years, shrines, statues and other true religious art treasures are carried by a large number of faithful walking in procession through the streets of Tournai, one of the oldest cities of the western countries. Year by year, these men and women repeat the procession set up in 1092 to thank Our Lady for delivering the city from the plague. Stepping out of the famous five-tower cathedral, the pilgrims come back after showing to the crowd pieces of a most remarkable human and christian heritage.

At 10 a.m. the day of the procession, a High Mass is celebrated in the cathedral. (Ph. : J. Lascoët)
